Qasim Rashid Launches Congressional Campaign for VA CD-1

A human rights lawyer, Rashid’s campaign will focus on transforming his decades of advocacy into policy

JANUARY 20, 2019

STAFFORD, VA- Qasim Rashid has entered the race for Congress for Virginia’s First Congressional District (VA-01).

In 2019, Rashid was the Democrat nominee for Virginia State Senate District 28, and ran against a 12-year-incumbent. He garnered support from 10,000 donors and 30,000 votes (50% more votes than any prior Democrat in Senate District 28). State Senate District 28 falls completely within VA-01 and Rashid looks to build on the immense momentum from 2019.

Rashid is a human rights lawyer who immigrated as a child with his family from Pakistan—due in major part to escaping religious persecution. Now, he channels his passion to serve the marginalized by working with national and international non-profit organizations that advance women’s rights, improve water, food, shelter, healthcare, and education access for children living in poverty. The Rashid for Congress campaign will transform his advocacy into policy.

“The First District of Virginia has been inadequately served by a corporate-funded Congressman for too long,” said Rashid, “It’s time to elect a representative that will serve the district by putting working families, veterans, federal employees, and environmental protection first.”

Rashid lives in Stafford with his wife and three children. Constituents can follow him on Twitter @QasimRashid and Facebook @QasimRashidVA.
