Former Presidential Candidate Eric Swalwell Endorses VA-01 Candidate Qasim Rashid

4/6/2020

STAFFORD, VA – Today, Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15) endorsed human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid, Democratic candidate for Congress in Virginia’s 1st District. Swalwell has served in Congress since 2013, and was a candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. His campaign focused on gun violence prevention and addressing economic inequality.

“Qasim Rashid is not afraid to go big, be bold, and fight for the good of America’s working families,” said Swalwell. “That’s why I’m proud to endorse his campaign for congress in Virginia’s 1st District. As VA-01’s next congressman, Qasim will lead with compassion and protect what’s important - our health care, our future, and our democracy. Virginia’s 1st district needs that type of fresh, new leadership and I’m excited to help Qasim bring that change.”

“I’m deeply honored by Congressman Swalwell’s endorsement,” said Rashid. “He is a powerful voice for protecting American lives, leveling our economic playing field, and achieving universal health care. His record of public service is a testament to our nation’s continuing need for bold solutions to big issues.”

The Rashid campaign has also been endorsed by several former candidates for the Virginia state legislature: Jess Foster and Morgan Goodman, who ran for House of Delegates in the 88th and 55th districts, and Herb Jones and Stan Scott, who ran for State Senate in the 3rd and 4th districts.
