Qasim Rashid’s Statement on the 19th Anniversary of 9/11

9/11/2020

“It is my hope that we take today as an opportunity to remember those who we have lost, to show compassion to those around us, and to act against injustice and discrimination whenever we see it.” says Rashid

STAFFORD, VA – Today, Qasim Rashid, Democratic Candidate for VA-01, released the following statement in remembrance of 9/11.

“Today is the 19th anniversary of September 11th, 2001, a day that changed our nation and the world forever. As Americans, we mourn the 2,977 innocent lives lost on 9/11 in New York, Pennsylvania, and in my home state of Virginia. We will never forget them and I’m holding their families in my heart today.

Today we also remember those who have died in the wars that followed 9/11 in Afghanistan and Iraq. These wars resulted in thousands of more American lives lost, and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians murdered in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Terrorism is unjust, violence is unjust, bigotry, xenophobia, and religious discrimination are all unjust. As an American of faith I call on everyone to uphold justice as the supreme standard.

For so many, today is a day of reflection. It is my hope that we take today as an opportunity to remember those who we have lost, to show compassion to those around us, and to act against injustice and discrimination whenever we see it.”
