Qasim Rashid Speaks Out Against Trump’s Disparaging Comments to Combat Heroes

9/4/2020

I hope my opponent stands with me in condemning Donald Trump’s unpatriotic rhetoric” says Rashid

STAFFORD, VA – Today, Qasim Rashid, Democratic Candidate for VA-01 spoke out about President Trump’s reported comments that military service  is for “suckers” and “losers.”

“I condemn the President’s disparaging remarks toward America’s military heroes, and I hope my Republican opponent can do the same” says Qasim Rashid. “My brother served in the Marine Corps because he believes - our family believes - in American Democracy. This does not make him a loser.”

“Rob Wittman and I are running to represent Virginia’s First Congressional District, home to Marine Corps Base Quantico, NSWC Dahlgren, and Fort A.P. Hill. Hundreds of thousands of patriotic Americans on active duty, their families, and veterans live in the First District. This is not the first time Donald Trump has disrespected them and disparaged their commitment to freedom. Every member of the Virginia delegation - Republican or Democrat - should speak out against the President’s shameful comments.”

“We should all agree that patriotic Americans serving their country are not suckers,” Rashid continued. “I hope my opponent stands with me in condemning Donald Trump’s unpatriotic rhetoric.”

“As a 30-year US Army retiree and a disabled veteran who served two combat tours, these comments disgust me. Trump is incapable of understanding military service and sacrificing himself to the benefit of one’s country” says Herb Jones, a retired army Colonel and former New Kent County Treasurer.  “I reside in the First Congressional District. Rob Wittman is currently our representative. Wittman must publicly denounce these comments by Trump.”

Republican opponent Rob Wittman has yet to comment on the recent Atlantic piece. In recent days, Wittman has been vocal about statues. The Rashid Campaign has an active Veteran’s Committee that does weekly livestreams on Facebook.
