Qasim Rashid on the Presidential Debate

9/30/2020

“Silence or anything less than full condemnation of Trump’s remarks puts American lives at risk. That is unacceptable,” says Rashid

STAFFORD, VA – Below is a statement from Qasim Rashid, Democratic nominee for Congress in Virginia’s First District, on last night’s presidential debate.

“Let’s be clear, today white supremacist groups are celebrating because last night Donald Trump endorsed white supremacy terrorism,” says Rashid. “Trump’s own FBI Director has cited groups like the Proud Boys as a high-level terror threat. I have spent my life as a human rights lawyer condemning and combatting terrorism. It is incumbent on all Republicans, including my opponent Rob Wittman, to unambiguously condemn and disavow Donald Trump’s violent rhetoric. Silence or anything less than full condemnation of Trump’s remarks puts American lives at risk. That is unacceptable.”

“It is unlikely that we will hear any words of condemnation from our Trump enabling opponent Rob Wittman. Wittman uses similarly dangerous and divisive nativist rhetoric so we’re not expecting him to disavow Donald Trump. It is what it is. It’s a pathetic excuse for leadership,” says spokeswoman Grace Hagerty.
