Activist Gaye Adegbalola Endorses Qasim Rashid

Rashid: “We’re lucky to have her on the team.”

STAFFORD, VA – Today, local activist and blues artist Gaye Adegbalola endorsed Qasim Rashid, Democratic nominee for Congress in VA-01. In 2018, Adegbalola was recognized as one of the Library of Virginia’s Virginia Women in History. The recognition was for her involvement in the Black Power movement and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights.

“I am deeply honored by Gaye Adegbalola’s endorsement,” said Rashid. “She was born and raised in Fredericksburg, and then she came back and taught science for eighteen years. She was even Virginia State Teacher of the Year in 1982. Through it all, she nurtured a love of blues and she maintained an awe-inspiring focus on making the world better. With her music and her activism and the power of her example, she has inspired generations of marginalized people. We’re lucky to have her on the team.”

Qasim Rashid is a human rights lawyer who has dedicated his life to supporting women who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and to serving children from vulnerable communities. Qasim is running to transform his advocacy into results for the working families of Virginia’s 1st District. He believes in service, leadership, and compassion through action.
